A new ARD science documentary delves into a significant but often overlooked hazard: tsunamis in Europe. Particularly in the Mediterranean region, where intense geological activity is prevalent, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes can trigger devastating waves.
The documentary also highlights the scientific efforts of the MULTI-MAREX project, part of the mareXtreme research mission. This initiative focuses on the Santorini region and the Kolumbo underwater volcano, studying how tectonic and volcanic processes interact and assessing the risks these pose to coastal communities. A key goal is the development of early warning systems to help mitigate these dangers.
